BEARD CARE 101

Growing and maintaining a great beard is so much more than just ditching the razor.  Proper care is essential to keeping your beard at its best, and an appropriate grooming routine will keep your beard soft, healthy and manageable.

Your beard is a reflection of self.  Keeping it comfortable and looking sharp will help you to make the right impression every day.  To that end, we have devised a brief guide to help you along your own beard journey

BEARD OIL

A quality beard oil is the most essential and versatile tool in your kit.  We all know the dreaded "itchy phase" of the growth cycle.  This is due to the hairs wicking away the natural oils produced by the skin.  Beard Oil helps replace those natural oils to moisturize skin, soften the hairs, eliminate the flakes of dried skin.  In addition, it will help to nourish hair follicles and protect from breakage, split ends, and produce an overall healthier beard.

Simply place a small amount in your palm, rub your hands together and spread it through a damp beard, working it down to the skin.  Then comb through the entire beard to spread the oil evenly.  We recommend a wooden comb designed for beard care, as plastic combs are usually machine stamped, and can contain tiny imperfections in the teeth that can snag and break hairs.

BEARD BUTTERS

Beard Butter acts as a leave-in conditioner that will more aggressively hydrate and nourish the hairs, while providing a light hold to help tame and shape your beard.

Used similarly to Oil, a small amount will go a long way.  Rub the desired amount in between your palms and work through the beard, followed by a wooden comb to spread evenly.  Some prefer a brush, in which case we would recommend boar's hair for more even product distribution while minimizing breakage.

BEARD BALMS

Balms work in a very similar way to Butters, in that they will provide nourishment and hydration to the hair follicle.  Balms, however, will usually contain wax in addition to the butter and oil blend.  As such, it will have a bit of a tacky effect in order to act as a styling aid to help shape and tame an unruly beard.  Applied in the same manner as butters, rubbing a small amount between your hands, work into the beard and comb or brush through.

***Butters and Balms can be affected by environmental factors during shipping, particularly in summer months.

To reconstitute, gently melt until liquid.  Place in freezer for up to one hour, stirring occasionally.  Do not microwave.

LEAVE IN CONDITIONERS

Leave In Conditioners provide lasting hydration, and aid in detangling for longer beards.  Whereas oil is intended primarily for the skin, a conditioner is designed to stay on the hair itself, reducing breakage by keeping the hair strong and flexible.  Best when applied to a damp beard and combed through.
